Well it has been a bittersweet weekend - so many wonderful memories of Memorial Day weekend with my Dad in Indy - La Quinta, the parade, the time trials, the race...so many wonderful times he provided for us to enjoy with him! It is really hard to believe we won't get to enjoy those things with him anymore...we miss him so much. But we are so grateful that we have those wonderful times to remember - so glad that we got to be with him and share all of his Indy experiences and stories. I think he would have loved this year's race with Danica Patrick!
So, another "first year without Daddy" marker has come and gone. I know that each of the holidays and anniversaries that come up this year will be hard...but I will hold on to the thought of being able to spend eternity with him and be thankful for all the memories I have to recall.

Oh yes, this was a difficult weekend. Jacque picked me up after I got home from church on the 30th and came in with Cole to watch the beginning of the race activities and the start of the race. Hearing Jim Nabors sing Back Home In Indiana brought tears to both of us. Last year being the first year he had missed in so many, many years was so hard for him. Jacque and John watched the race with us here at home. She too recalls the special times at the track with him as do I. It is the end of an era for sure. But we can always honor his memory by staying interested in watching it every year which I know you and your family and Jacque and hers will do. Lisa never got to go with him since her children are the youngest but I imagine she is following it too. She had such a rough time the past few days with her trip turning out to be such a disappointment and having to give up and return home. Now she is feeling so trapped she said. I sure do understand that feeling as I've been there in those years of raising small children and living away from my parents and other relatives as you have also.
Hope you are feeling better by now. Still take it very easy. I have not made any plans on going to Indiana yet. I'll keep you informed.
